Stevie Ray Vaughan "Tightrope" guitar lesson. Today we're using the Xotic RC Booster to chisel through our Fender DRRi while adding some subtle rotary speaker tones from a fast MXR Analog Chorus. Although pretty clean, SRV's tone is huge as always and dropping your tuning to Eb is a step in the right direction. There are also quite a few '9 chords' in the song with give it a jazzy flavor, similar to the E7(#9) "Hendrix chord" but without your pinky. Locking with the band during the first two beats of the verse is crucial in keeping with Tightrope's groove in addition to a loose funky strumming pattern. Both the studio and live versions show SRV playing with a Vibratone rotating speaker which is mic'd alonside other amps, so the MXR's Analog Chorus level comes in real handy for finding the right wet/dry blend. Enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!
